IILSP offers specialized knowledge on ecocide, commonly defined as the large-scale destruction of the natural environment due to human actions. With global partners, we investigate instances of environmental devastation, advocate for affected communities, defend the rights of frontline environmental defenders, and initiate legal actions in all relevant jurisdictions to hold wrongdoers accountable. Additionally, IILSP also focuses on the financial dimensions of environmental crimes, as environmental crimes are often perpetrated by entities operating from business-friendly markets, utilizing financial institutions to launder their illegally obtained funds. Recognizing the interconnectedness of various disciplines, we employ a holistic, integrated approach to combat ecocide.
